Tracon 2025 – Con hype reignited!

 Hello in the house!

Tracon was held on 5-7 September 2025 in Tampere, Finland. It has quite literally been a decade since I last attended (or well, eleven years, to be precise) but this year the stars lined up just right to make it possible for me to return and see how much it has changed!

Let's-a go!

Tracon 2025 info booklet.

I should maybe preface here and say that I didn't stop attending Tracon due to a loss of interest or anything like that, in fact even back in the days when I first started going to cons Tracon, early on, climbed to the top spots – it was always one of my most liked events. The reason it fell out was mainly due to economical and logistical reasons (living in the north means it's at the very least a 5h trip with train) and also a few personal ones later on, like worsening mental health that made me mostly only feel safe at nearby small events.

But over the last year or two, truthfully, I've been feeling like I'm missing out by not going to Tracon. I had heard so much good about it, how it has expanded and become something akin to "Finland's Närcon", a mixture of a summer festival and an anime convention. And if there's another convention that I used to attend and miss attending a lot it is Närcon – and the reason I haven't gone to Närcon for years is because it's crazy expensive for me (I have to travel over 1000 km one way, oof) and cumbersome to get there. It just isn't possible right now and so the next best thing is Tracon and, thanks to the wonderful Sallukka and Dongrieg, I managed to go there!
You see, before Tracon's tickets were released I had asked Sallukka casually that if, by chance, they managed to get one for me as well (it's a tight fight to get tickets, popular Finnish cons have had big issues with scalpers for years...) I would like to join them – if it was possible to make it work. My home internet is ass due to being in a grayzone area so yeah, I have poor chances to get a ticket myself. They did get con tickets for all of us three and so I then booked train tickets for myself (making sure to book the seat next to them for company) and they made some changes to the Airbnb stay and then we were set for departure!
On the Thursday before the con my stepfather drove me to Kemi before his work shift began. The train wasn't leaving until just before 17:00 so I spent the afternoon at Sallukka and Dongrieg's place. Joni came over too, he'd drive us to the train station so that Sallukka wouldn't have to leave the car there over the weekend. Because we had a few hours to kill we went to a second-hand shop (Sallukka was looking for parts for a potential cosplay) and I found some vintage My Little Pony dolls, yay!
Eventually we left for the train station after a detour to Lidl because last-minute snacks for the trip and yeah, what followed was 5 hours sitting in the train and just lagging away lol. I have no memory of what I did in the train aside from curling up in a fetal position to sleep (the seat next to me stayed empty the whole duration) because I got a massive afternoon crash. Oh, and to escape the motion sickness.

It was almost 22:00 when the train arrived in Tampere. Dongrieg activated his navigation skills and we waddled our way to the Airbnb. Luckily it was quite central and thus close to the train station, just a few minutes of walking. I almost stepped on dog poo. Because it was so late we had some trouble with coming up with a place to eat (the few that were open were on the expensive side lol) but luckily at least McDonald's was open and didn't threaten us with bankruptcy.

Our stay during Tracon... after the obligatory cosplayer explosion. :'D

The rest of what remained of Thursday night we just chilled, watched The Simpsons on TV and I did some skincare and other preparations for tomorrow.

Then came Friday. I woke up around 10-ish something. We had no morning urgency because, if I recall correctly, Tracon opened its doors at 16:00 in the evening so we had plenty of time to get ready. Of course if we wanted to we could have headed out to claim our ticket bands in advance but in the end we decided against it because, based on Sallukka and Dongrieg's experiences last year, there wasn't much of a line to get your tickets on-site. Me kelattiin että mitä jos kaikki rynttäävät siihen ennakkohakuun niin siellä on sit jonot ja varsinaisessa conin avauksessa ei enään oo sillee reverse psychology tai jotain. :D So after morning showers and whatnot we headed out to check some stores and grab breakfast; I used the ResQ app to get an inexpensive box of takeaway sushi and almost a kilo of dried cranberries (for 3€) from Punnitse & Säästä to take home because we don't have that kind of luxury store where I live lol. I love ResQ, it's such a great initiative to lessen food waste and save some bucks. :)
We went back to the Airbnb and I ate the sushis for breakfast/lunch, I was hungry lol. I figured I could just grab something else from ResQ later for dinner.

Eventually me and Sallukka started putting on our cosplays; Dongrieg doesn't cosplay yet but is interested. I did my new OC Shou and the whole makeup process was mostly fine except that I couldn't use the larger elf ears that I originally wanted to use because the spirit gum just wouldn't stick enough to hold their weight. I had to use the smaller ears which I thankfully had packed with me, just in case.

Pretty much the only proof photo I have of Shou for now.

Once we were finally done we walked to the con. I don't remember what the clock was but maybe it was like 30 minutes or 1 hour after Tracon had officially opened its doors? Something like that. We took a shortcut by walking through the train station which was hella convenient because otherwise you'd have to go around (which I believe is what I used to do back in the days lol), which takes longer.

I was so disoriented when we arrived at the con area because we didn't enter through the main entrance but through the park's side entrance, which didn't even exist when I last was at Tracon, as in the whole fenced outdoor area didn't exist. It took me a good many minutes to recognize where we were lol.

Ticket exchange booths outdoors.

One of the first wow-moments I had was seeing all the food trucks and market stalls lined up immediately upon entering the fenced area. It felt like I had stepped into some kind of outdoorsy summer food festival except that there were cosplayers everywhere. It was an amazing feeling, I felt like a child eager to explore lol!

Tracon con ticket, wiee~

The outdoors area was large, larger than I initially expected. There were photo opportunity decorations, a live stage, a large green area where you could just sit and picnic with friends under the shade of trees etc. Not to mention all the shops (including a big daily rotating Artist Alley tent!) and the benches where you could sit and enjoy your foods. I even heard that even if you didn't have a Tracon ticket you actually had access to the fenced outdoors area – you just couldn't get indoors. So that's like access to roughly half of the con because some of the activities etc were outdoors and there were plenty of things to see and experience for it to be worth a trip to Tampere even if you didn't manage to land a ticket. I honestly like this approach because it makes the con accessible for those who would otherwise be excluded or unable to attend.

The obligatory metrilaku (lit. 'meter liquorice') seller. :'DD

One of several food trucks. Didn't even have to leave the area if you got hungry!

We didn't immediately head inside but instead briefly browsed a bit and checked out the, err, I guess we can call it the square area? Torilla tavataan eiku. There were some dealers outside selling stuff ranging from glass pottery and blacksmith stuff to more typical independent artist (aka Artist Alley) stuff like earrings and post cards.
It was a bit cloudy but the weather was quite pleasant, I know that it looks a bit dull on the photos but it was a nice day lol. My camera doesn't really do the vibes justice. xD

"Market square" area. Tampere-talo to the right, aka Tracon building.

Ever wanted to smith your own jewelry from scratch?

It was pretty insane because in the square area was this smithy booth with an anvil, fireplace and everything, like a straight-up blacksmith workshop – and not just that, you could sign up for a course where the bros running the shop would help you forge your own jewelry from scratch. How cool is that??

These guys looked like they came straight from a Korpiklaani music video. x)

We waddled our way indoors and entered the good old Tampere-talo (or Tampere Hall, in English). I gotta say here that I really like Tampere-talo as a con building still – it's so roomy, well-lit, inviting and yet it somehow feels lowkey luxurious in a way? It felt weirdly nostalgic to be back and yeah, once we stepped inside that's when it hit me how much I've really missed Tracon. The con feeling and hype is something else!

We immediately headed for the Dealer's Hall in the back of the main floor because Dongrieg wanted to make some manga and video game purchases and I needed to find Talking to Myself's jewelry store to grab a sword necklace I had reserved and drooled over post-Mericon. It was nice to see that after all these years the Dealer's Hall was in its familiar place so I managed to navigate myself decently.

The beginning of Dealer's Hall area.

Puolenkuun Pelit was the first dealer we checked out!

I did notice that there was a large amount of merchandise sellers and artisans in the designated area and it felt perhaps even bigger than what I remembered? It was nice to see the variety of goods for sale, ranging from manga pockets to steampunk and witchy accessories and home decor! If I hadn't been such a massive dumb-dumb and forgotten my leftover cash from the previous con trip I would have splurged because there was so much I would have liked to buy lol. Instead I had to be very stringent with what I decided to buy, very much so.

Such a treat to see the Swedish Afternoon Fika here!

One thing I noticed both in the Dealer's Hall and when I later on visited the Artist's Alley upstairs was that there were sellers from outside of Finland, which was so cool to see! I saw Afternoon Fika in the Dealer's Hall area and was so surprised because I knew they were from Sweden because I remember seeing them and buying from there years ago in Närcon! It was such a nice surprise and I loved the opportunity to see how much their store and products had evolved since the last time I saw them. The marine animal and dinosaur plushies are amazing and I seriously wanted to buy one of the shark plushes but, in the end, I couldn't afford it. ;_;

There even was a shop where a dude sold self-made lightsaber hilts!

When the clock was nearing 17:00 we decided, quite spontaneously, to go check out the "Kosminen musiikkimatka – Connection Interrupted LIVE" music program because there were seat tickets available and live music performances are always nice. But before we headed upstairs to get to the right place I had to drop off my camera bag at the cloakroom because Tracon has this rule in place that states that belongings over a certain size can't be taken into at least the concert rooms, possibly all activity rooms. Luckily it's not really that much of a hassle and I could just pick my camera bag back up after the show is over – the only thing this rule affected is that my photos from the indoor live music shows are all taken with my phone camera but thankfully phone cameras have caught up with SLR cameras the last few years so yeah, there's not a massive dip in quality anymore. :D

Connection Interrupted's "space rig" on stage.

This was honestly so cool! There were these two cosmic space travelers playing something that I'd call electronic, nostalgic club music. I attended it as a spur of the moment thing, drawn in by the promise of something unique and unique it was; I read afterwards that it's a hobby music group and the whole computer rig thingy is self-funded and created, making their passion and soul for the project so tangible. I didn't have any clear expectations when going in but when the two masked guys appeared behind the rig it clicked for me that 'ohhh, this is like a spacecraft simulation music thing with imbedded storytelling elements'. The whole mystery movie ambience and atmosphere thing shifting between dreamlike tranquility and space disasters sucked me in rather quickly and I found my head bobbing to the rhythms in no time! Once I got into the mood I found myself enjoying and appreciating the ride surprisingly much. I liked the songs, the performance and the use of colors, smoke and all of the tiny changes in the rig and other elements that told the story in discreet, observational ways. I also liked how it embraced existential topics without being too dreary and how subtle and refined the whole performance was; I'm not sure if it was intended or not but it almost felt like watching some sort of psychoanalysis of humanity's essence packed into the shape of a mysterious and perilous space journey with nudges towards retro space shooters. One of the best parts was the launch with the countdown in the earlier half, that was so hype with the sound effects making the floor rumble beneath the feet!

Honestly, I would attend this again if I see this group performing somewhere in the future where I happen to be. It's a novel concept that combines the feeling of space mystery with electronic live music and invites the watcher to really think what's beyond the "minimalist surface" (by that I mean that the performance is rather static, it's the same large props and placement for the whole duration). I felt like it was a really intelligent, thought-provoking show that had a lot of hidden layers and could be interpreted in many different ways.

Corridor to/from the Dealer's Hall. There were some artist tables along the sides!

I'm not entirely sure what we did after the space music show, I think we might have briefly returned to the Dealer's Hall and then I think we headed back to our Airbnb stay to drop off our purchases and grab something to eat. I know I grabbed some fried chicken and noodles through ResQ from a different restaurant (Daiwo Sushi) than the morning sushi (Itsudemo).
Once back at our room we just relaxed for a bit and recharged our mental batteries from the overwhelm. Neither me nor Sallukka changed out of costume just yet.

Walking back to the con, this time entering through the main entrance.

It's hard to remember what we did when because truth is that time went by so fast and it felt like I was constantly in a mixed daze of equal parts hype and overwhelm. There was so much I would have wanted to see and panels that were interesting enough to go check out but yeah, I'm one of those people that when there's tons of interesting things to keep tabs on I just kinda have a shutdown and end up not being able to take in and process everything because I'm so overstimulated lol. So I had this little priority list in my head that I will focus on live music performances because yeah, that's like one of Tracon's main pulls that it prides itself on (and Tampere-talo is great as a host building for concerts).

Friday was mostly an exploration and shopping day. I know I entirely missed the "outdoors Artist's Alley" aka the Taidepolku art tent on Friday because of how time flew by. In hindsight it sucks because I only noticed on Saturday that the tent held 20 unique artists per day, meaning 60 artists in the outdoor tent alone! That's insane! But if I want to be realistic I have to factor in that yes, I passed by the tent on Friday and yes, the queue to even get in was equally insane. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people just gave up because they lost motivation upon seeing how long the line was. I remember thinking to myself during the day when we first arrived at the con "oh I'll just go later when there's no line"... pfffrt, as if such a miracle ever happened.

But at least I didn't miss my Friday must-see, namely the "Nörttifolkkia Temmien tahtiin" folk music group outdoors at 21:00. I absolutely adore acoustic shows in general and folk covers etc and folk metal of course. This was on the live stage in the green area and, despite the humidity at this hour of the night messing with the violin strings, it was such a cozy and great show! My favorite was a cover of the Gerudo Valley theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time except with some Finnish lyrics thrown in due to similarities in sounds (Kerava sounds a bit like Gerudo lol).

Temmit folk group on the live stage outdoors.

After this concert was wrapped up at roughly 22:00 we stayed for the "Flamman tulishow" that would begin almost directly after; for those who can't read Finnish it's a fire show by the group Flamma. I've never seen this particular group before but I've seen several fire shows during my life so I kinda know what to expect haha. They were good though, and fire shows are always cool!

Flamma taking the stage.

I had some trouble with the special arrangements because everyone in the audience had to sit on the grass so that those in the back could also see, which is fair, but I happened to be in the very front with Sallukka and super hesitant to sit down because I didn't want to ruin my costume in the moist grass already ruined the haori once #trauma but, even more so, I had real difficulties trying to get down in a crouching position (to keep most of my costume off the ground) because of a really unstable and painful left knee. I had wrapped it for stability already on the morning but it only helps so much with hypermobility and chronic pain issues so yeah, I couldn't focus on the fire show because all I could focus on was the damn throbbing pain in my knee and keeping my balance. I did eventually lose balance and fall over and I was so embarrassed because there was of course someone straight behind me whom I fell over. ;_; I gave up at that point and left my spot to go stand at the far back. I know it was informed prior to the show's start that those with mobility issues etc could sit on the edges of the live stage but I was too hesitant to go there because I'd have to cross the crowd and get in everyone's way. Yeah I'm super anxious to even remotely annoy others by passing through, even if I would need it. And I lowkey was afraid that I'm "too able-bodied" to have a right to use it because only one of my knees is bad.

After the fire show was over we decided to head back to the Airbnb for the night. There would still have been some activities left until almost midnight but we were getting tired and just wanted to wind down at this point. We walked back to our place of stay and I ate the fried chicken dish I had picked up earlier after I was done deleting the makeup from my face; it's so refreshing to shower after a full day sweating in a costume lol. And here I even tried to pick a lighter cosplay so I wouldn't boil to death but of course I forgot that yeah, autumn in the north isn't the same as autumn in the south. xD

The rest of the night I remember doing my dailies on Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves etc on my phone and then playing a bit on my Nintendo Switch. I also don't know why we're like this at the late hours but I distinctly remember a serious midnight conversation with Sallukka and Dongrieg where we pondered the deep questions about life and... well, that included the intellectual pinnacle of "pylly synnyttää kakan ja pönttö vie sen kotiin" (translates to "the ass births the shit and the toilet takes it home"). Poop talk is high culture.

On Saturday I woke up roughly around 9:40 and with the power of Lidl's Donkey Kong energy drink I started putting on my cosplay for the day, namely captain Ukitake from Bleach. Or well, I tried to start but instead I had a moment of panic because I couldn't find my wig cap anywhere! After searching hunting high and low for it I finally found it wrapped around the friggin' door handle. I really have no idea why I put it on such a weird place last night. :S I had some issues with my foundation being all streaky and shit for some reason (it was perfectly fine yesterday lol) but thankfully the powder hid the worst of it; sometimes the foundation trolls like that.

Walking towards another day of fun~

Just like on the day before me, Sallukka and Dongrieg entered Tracon through the side entrance, it's just more conveniently placed for us considering the direction we arrived from. We had barely gotten inside the fenced area when a No-Face cosplayer from Spirited Away approached us on the road pictured above and exclaimed "all Bleach cosplayers get free candy!" while handing us some mint candies. It was sudden and adorable and I immediately felt appreciated. ;_;

Ukitake and Unohana (Sallukka) vibing feat. Minazuki-rausku. <3

Pretty sure we went straight for the Dealer's Hall again and just generally hanged around until it was time for the AMV competition to start at 15:30. I've got to admit my ignorance here and say that I've largely lived under a rock because up until now I barely knew what an Anime Music Video really was – like I had this vague idea that it was like a compilation of different anime clips with random upbeat music thrown in but apparently it's a much more intricate art form than that. I went in with no idea what sort of quality to expect but I was blown away by the talent! It was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be and some of the videos had amazing storytelling and the clips were synced so well with the rhythm and emotions of the chosen songs. I almost got inspired to try to create something myself.. until I remembered how shite I am at video editing. x'D

More Dealer's Hall glory!

There was honestly so much cool and nerdy stuff for sale...

... including obligatory Pokémon plush dolls. I have that Magikarp btw.

During the duration of the AMV competition I noticed I felt a weird headache. I thought at first that it's probably just your average wig headache and tried readjusting the wig, which eased the worst of it. I went on with my day not thinking too much about it.
Oh and yeah, I forgot my phone inside my camera bag (that I, once again, had to leave at the cloakroom before entering the AMV competition) so that's why I don't have any photos of the competition. Sorry!

Throughout the day there were a handful of encounters with other Bleach cosplayers and fans – a few wanted photos and some passed us by complimenting our costumes. I always feel so awkward with social interactions but I also enjoy those little moments of fandom joy. ;^;

An overview and map of all the floors.

I would have liked to watch the "Viikinkimiekkailun taistelunäytös" which was a viking swordfighting display but I completely forgot about it during the day! I did catch the "Yagyu shinkage ryu miekkailunäytös" though, which showcased the aforementioned school's teachings of swordsmanship. As someone who used to practice kendo back in the days I could spot some slight similarities but it was nevertheless interesting to watch and chat about. The people holding the display were polite and friendly and you could get some hands-on experience if you wanted to. :)

Yagyu Shinkage-ryu is more than just a Combat Style in Rise of the Ronin.

The weather was similar to what we got on Friday so yeah, I was getting roasted in my shinigami robes lol. I tried to stay outdoors as much as possible because it was breezier than indoors. The main floor and the second floor were alright (especially if you had a folding fan) but the third floor was sauna levels of unbearably hot.
I'm pretty sure I went to the third floor already on the first day but it was so packed with people and suffocatingly warm that it was really uncomfortable to try to browse the Artist's Alley that was located up there. I remember mostly just skimming through the tables even though some of the sellers were only there for one day; I'm pretty sure I missed some artists on Friday but no can do. On Saturday I tried to go up there on like two or three separate occasions to make sure I didn't miss anyone. It always felt like you were on a timer once you got up there because the air quality and heat was almost unbearable if you were in a heavier or layered costume! During one of the days when I was upstairs it reeked of spilled beer lol.

Third floor's Artist Alley.

I loved the variety of items for sale and there were several artists I had never seen previously, including some from far abroad. Yes, further than Sweden. :D This is one of those times when I once again lamented over forgetting my extra cash at home. *sniff* I was particularly stoked to see a first-timer who had some amazing Digimon prints and acrylic stands for sale – if I see him again somewhere I'm taking WereGarurumon home lol.

Roleplaying area (I think?) was on the second floor.

Of course when you're wandering around and having fun you're bound to get hungry – or at least snackish. This time we didn't head back to our apartment to grab something to eat (or well, Sallukka and Dongrieg did go back briefly but only to drop off their purchases) but instead tried out some of the food truck offers. You could get warm food like hamburgers and stuff but we tried out those cute round little pancakes and it was delicious! I did carry with me some candy-flavored dates but those I inhaled already during the AMV competition so yeah, I was hungry again by now. :'D

Mini pancakes with white chocolate and blueberries!

Despite my knee being a jerk and being all wibbly-wobbly I had a great time on Saturday. I remember when I was outside waiting for Sallukka and Dongrieg at some point (I mean, you look away for even one minute and you lose your company in the whirlpool of people lol) there was this person standing next to one of the junctions leading to the live stage and they said something that implied that they had been waiting for me to come within range so that they could get a photo; they had a capillary fracture or something like that on their feet and couldn't walk much. They were so sweet and ecstatic about seeing someone cosplaying Ukitake, I just hope they weren't in too much pain to be able to enjoy the con. ;_;

Live stage area. This was were Temmit and Flamma were on Friday.

Saturday went by really fast and soon enough it was time for the "Sekakuoro Unreality: Legendojen arvoiset" choir concert, one of our group's must-sees. I absolutely adore choirs overall and might have some extra affinity for the artform because when my mom was a young girl she used to sing in a choir that traveled all the way to Iceland once. I've always loved singing myself but I'm ridiculously shy and only sing alone or else I die lol.

I had never seen Unreality perform before so I was quite excited for this one! It started at 20:00 and lasted for one hour. I wouldn't have minded if it had been even longer because it really stirred something in me and it was really ethereal. I did record one of the songs, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, but they also played immortal geek classics like the Dovahkiin song!
My recording quality doesn't do the performance justice at all but I uploaded it below, for anyone who wants to hear it.

Once this concert was over the time was 21:00 and we were ready to call it a day. Together we all waddled back downstairs to retrieve our stuff from the cloakroom and while I was grabbing my stuff I felt someone tapping softly on my shoulder. I turn around and there's this person in casual clothes just next to me who says how much they love my cosplay and we ended up talking a bit about Ukitake and Bleach in general and I kinda got the feeling that they probably would have otherwise wanted a photo but were polite because yeah, they could see I was getting ready to leave the con. I asked if they wanted a hug instead and their eyes lit up and I gave them this big proper hug and then they apologized because they started crying oh my god. ;;__;; I said there's no need to apologize for happy tears.
I don't know what it is but it feels like whenever I cosplay Ukitake that's when I get these wholesome moments – it feels like for a lot of Bleach fans he's just one character in the roster but there's a small group of people who are really big fans and these devoted fans are the ones I seem to attract. :') One of the reasons I love cosplaying Ukitake, aside from how special this cosplay is to me, is because I tend to get these tender and memorable social interactions that stay with me!
The only thing I wish I would have noticed during this encounter was that I had forgotten to take my glasses off after the Unreality concert. I was completely unaware of the fact I still had them on and only noticed after they left. Oops. I was tired. :'D

Back at the Airbnb we spent the rest of the night watching dumb Youtube clips like Sinkkulaiva (yes it's trashy lmao) episodes with commentary by Juufin and then youtuber Franssi playing Mörköpeli, aka The Groke Game, a Moomin fangame that got taken down. It was a lot of fun!

I had intrusive thoughts. My intrusive thoughts won.

Oh, remember that wig headache I mentioned? It wasn't a wig headache, it was the wig cap that had cut into my skin so deep there was this raised red wound. :DD Yes it hurt, could barely even touch it for several days lmao. #cosplayilmantuskaaonteeskentelyä

Sunday came. It was time to pack all belongings and leave the room. The morning could have gone better because my phone's GPS was a lil' shit and didn't work properly when I tried to make my way to the closest foodstore to recycle our cans and bottles – I ended up going in the wrong direction at first. Always lovely when you're short on time. :)) Oh well, still made it back on time and off we went.
Neither Sallukka nor Dongrieg were too keen on carrying all our luggage to the con and frankly, I wasn't too excited by it either. Thank lord the train station had these luggage storage locker things you could rent for a set amount of hours that was hella convenient. Need to remember that for next time because it saves you from the after-con hassle of retrieving your luggage from the big cloakroom outdoors when literally everyone else needs to do the same thing too lol.

None of us cosplayed on Sunday, not worth the hassle. Ja ehkä oli vähän conidarran alkua. Sunday was like a half day for us because the train up north would leave around 16:00 – there's not a lot of train options on Sundays and this was the most sensible one to take. Of course we missed a lot of programs that would have been interesting to see but such is the burden of living far away.

Tracon had something for everyone, including rhythm games.

Drum session anyone? No chance of getting bored this weekend. :D

At 12:30 the "Akateeminen puhallinorkesteri ja laulusolistit: Historiaa ja hittejä – Tracon 20v juhlakonsertti" started, the academic brass band ceremonial concert celebrating Tracon's 20th anniversary. Yes, this was a big anniversary year for Tracon and I think perhaps that's why there were so many programs and activities? I mean, it would make sense at least.

They played to a full audience I'm pretty sure.

I had high expectations for this one. I got the impression it was the crown jewel of the concerts in regards to the anniversary at least and yeah, it looked like the hall was full so it sure was anticipated. But still I ended up a little disappointed; it was not bad by any means but I know part of my personal disappointment comes from the fact there wasn't a single song I had heard prior lol. Yeah I know, that's on me for being out of the loop and not having watched a lot of anime. The only song I even remotely knew, at least by name, was Hare Hare Yukai and I never cared for it nor understood why it was so hyped back in the days but, then again, I never watched the anime it originated from either. How blasphemous and uncivilized of me, I know. :) Of course I know what Fire Emblem and Super Smash Bros. game series are that they also played songs from but it was from the newer entries and I've only played the older entries lmao rip because my gaming backlog is immense. :-DD
Some of the vocalists were decent but others left a bit to be desired imho, especially after the wow-factor of the Unreality concert that had such a strong and convincing presence.

After the brass orchestra we had roughly 2 hours left of time to stroll around and wrap up any loose ends of things we wanted to do.

Second floor view.

There was a maid café on the second floor.

I know I went to check the third floor's Artist Alley for one last time, now that it was a bit less of a death trap since I wasn't overheating in costume lol. I noticed there were several tables that had "sold out" notes in place were items used to be earlier so yeah, selling at Tracon is probably quite lucrative! Very happy for all the artists who got great sales! And Tracon really motivated me to start working on my own stuff too.

Youkai art exhibition at the outdoor area.

For the last hour or so I tried my luck to get into the Taidepolku art tent outside, aka "the outdoors Artist Alley". I did manage to get inside yesterday during a low activity moment but the one thing I would have wanted to buy, a Sephiroth print, was sold out. The artist said it had been really popular.

Outdoors area. Not sure what direction this is lolol.

When I reached the junction leading to the Taidepolku tent I noticed this massive line of people. I stood around the general area for a while and I spotted a Sheena Fujibayashi cosplayer from one of my childhood games, Tales of Symphonia. We ended up talking for a good while and bonding over the game and well, games in general. It was a great talk!

Eventually I went to stand in line, not sure if I even was in the right place, until this person in front of me asked me if I'm waiting to get inside Taidepolku. I of course said yes and then I was handed this big sign that said "end of the line" and I was bewildered for half a second until it clicked and I then gave it forward to the people who came to stand behind me. :'D

You can't even see half of the queue on this photo. #jonocon

So I stand there in line, waiting more or less patiently once I realized the train is leaving in one hour and the line isn't really moving fast enough lol. I learn that Sallukka and Dongrieg had tried to go check out the tent earlier but immediately gave up when they saw how eternal the line was. Can't blame them though – normally I would have given up too. The only reason I was stubborn to get in was because I saw, when passing next to the exit opening, that the table visible from that entrance had a really beautiful Neuvillette print that I needed in my life!

60 unique artists in Taidepolku alone, meaning 20 per day!

I swear the line got bigger and bigger the closer you got because at first, when you were far away, you couldn't see the full length and all the twists and turns lol. I'm not sure how many years it took off my life but eventually I got in. The security worker who let people in cut off the line just in front of me (there was this group of friends in front and she asked if they were the same group) and I was begging like "can I please get in, my train is leaving in less than one hour" lmao – every minute counted at this point. Good thing she was understanding and let me in because I was stressed at this point.

Taidepolku (lit. "art path") tent inside view.

There was this artist inside who had this nice-looking Sephiroth acrylic charm (I haven't seen a Sephiroth one before at cons I've been to) that I wanted but they were one of the few who didn't take credit cards. And this is when I wanted to kick myself for forgetting those extra euro bills at home. By the time I managed to jumble together an alternative way to pay, and returned to that table, I was told that they literally just sold the very last one right in front of my nose! My typical luck at play. xD So instead of Sephiroth I got a Neuvillette charm, which also happened to be the last one lol. I have several different Neuvillette charms already from other artists but he's my number one favorite Genshin character so I'm collecting them all lmao. I did of course buy the print too (it was a different table) that I saw from the exit earlier.

I've always wanted to try boffer fighting. Maybe next time!

After my Taidepolku trip I met up with Sallukka and Dongrieg and then we left Tracon behind. Before going to the train station I grabbed some takeaway sushi from a Chinese restaurant called Zhuang Yuan Lou; for some reason I can't seem to find it on Google Maps (it is on ResQ though) but it was located inside the shopping mall at Tullikatu 6 near Tampere-talo. I wouldn't care to mention this otherwise but holy hell the sushi was overly delicious so yeah, I'm making like a mental note to myself to remember this place for next year! I haven't had such good sushi in years – it was absolute heaven in my mouth and, in hindsight, I wish I would have bought the second box that was available too. I really wasn't expecting anything special because the place was rather small and somewhat hidden on the bottom floor of this mall and yeah, the place looked so average in all ways but damn, what a gem.

Surprise sushi bliss in the train.

The train trip back home went fine, except that I dropped my Zhongli pin on the platform while waiting for the train to arrive. I heard it fall though so I retrieved it. I've dropped and lost so many pins during my teenage years so you gotta stay vigilant now as an adult. xD

Phew. I think my Tracon summary is done with all that. This took me several days to write because it's so massive. Good thing I had been smart in advance and made some notes throughout the con days so that I even remembered anything at this point! I tend to forget and mix things up am I old? and these little notes really helped me write this summary lol.
Surprisingly my con hangover isn't as bad as I expected it to be (I've had worse hangovers from Kummacon and Matsucon, no shade!) – perhaps the con hype and post-excitement helped combat the scales, hehe. I'm so fired up after Tracon, I had so much fun and I've missed this feeling of unbridled geeky joy. I loved seeing all the various costumes and especially the quirky rare ones you don't expect to see like someone cosplaying Mr Lordi himself (yes, the Finnish monster band), the Bananas in Pyjamas, Skibidi Toilet, Blåhaj, a whole group of only Nurse Joys from Pokémon and many more that enriched the experience!

Bonus photo!

These two goofballs were like the highlight of my con!

I saw these two wizard Merlin (Disney's The Sword in the Stone) cosplayers on Saturday and I completely lost it when I recognized them. XD I've never seen anyone cosplay Merlin in real life before and these versions make it a thousand times better and I told it to these two who then proceeded to tell me that that's exactly their cosplay goals – namely to cosplay fun and rare characters that very few have done before. They were so hilarious and with such amazingly boisterous personalities that the laughs were contagious. xD Without lying every subsequent time when we came across each other throughout the day we'd crack up immediately. It was beyond beautiful.
Sadly they didn't have any social media accounts or anything so I can't tag them here but, like, wherever you are please keep on doing what you do!

I absolutely adored this new Tracon experience. Tracon has grown so much; I had an amazing time and, although it was impossible to experience and see everything I was interested in, I left with a feeling of giddy excitement and nerdy fulfillment that I haven't felt from cons in a long time. I know I just have to go next year too, this crushed all my expectations! I don't have the words to describe everything I'm feeling right now but I know I feel so alive and ready to get creative to make next year even more fun!

Thanks for reading!~
A really big and special thank you goes out to both Sallukka and Dongrieg for making this experience possible. ♥ Love you!

Tracon 2025 cosplay plans!

Hi hi!

Yes, I'm actually attending Tracon again! It's only been like.. uhh.. 11 years since the last time? xD I've heard that Tracon has changed quite a lot and I really want to see how it is nowadays. I didn't think I'd get a chance to revisit "this soon" LOL but things worked out and here I am, packing and panicking for the trip!

The reason I'm so late with my costume plans is because they kept changing so much. One of the original plans even changed last minute because the wig self-destructed don't ask omg and so I had to find something else. Luckily it wasn't hard to come up with a replacement and the choice was made even easier when I learned that Sallukka was planning a cosplay from the same series!

As of how things look right now I will do a new OC cosplay on Friday. His name is Shou and he's from the same story/universe as Yuuto is. I haven't had time to make any art of this character yet so please bear with the lack of visualization for now. ^^" I know I've been rather short-worded about my OCs in general but I do plan to write stories for some of them that I might publish somewhere – ideally in a physical novel compilation because I like physical media. It's good to have ambitions.. or something.

For Saturday I will rewear an old classic who already saw the light of day earlier this year...

Character: Jushiro Ukitake
Series: Bleach

Yes, Ukitake it is! He's such a comfy cosplay to wear and with Bleach being on the rise once more it feels like it's a great time to bring out my old costumes again. Not like popularity has ever dictated my cosplay choices anyway but, I mean, when something I still enjoy happens to get a revival years down the line it's a golden opportunity to relive those nostalgia years!

I briefly thought about bringing a cosplay for Sunday too but figured it's not really worth it because I won't be at the con that long on the last day (if at all) and yeah, the reason for this is obvious – when you live as far north as I do the traveling back home takes a looooong time. I'm also a sucker for comfort nowadays and the idea of sitting in a train with cosplay on for 5+ hours doesn't sound as exciting now as it did for my younger and weebier self lol. And well, changing out of cosplay before leaving the con is such a hassle for just a couple hours of wear time at most so nahh, no Sunday costume for me.

That's it for my lineup! Anyone else rocking Soul Reaper robes? :D

Convention plans 2016!

Yo peeps!

I thought I could do a list of what anime conventions I have planned to go to this year. I will order the cons by an estimated date when they will happen (not in chronological order since all dates aren't even out yet). ^_^ I've been thinking about doing this kind of list as a reference to both myself and all my friends who want to know where they might have a good chance of meeting me!

 Let's go!

~ CONVENTION PLANS 2016! ~

SWE • Närcon Vinter 2016
FIN • Cosvision 2016
FIN • Kummacon 2016
SWE • Skecon 2016
SWE • Närcon 2016
SWE • Nerdcon 2016
FIN • Matsucon 2016
FIN • Tracon 2016
FIN • Kitacon 2016

And here's the "how likely I am to attend each con" list.

Närcon Vinter > SET
Cosvision > LIKELY
Kummacon > VERY LIKELY
Skecon > SET
Närcon > VERY LIKELY
Nerdcon > SET
Matsucon > VERY LIKELY
Tracon > CONSIDERING
Kitacon > SET

The scale goes like this: set > very likely > likely > considering

Please note that these can still change and that I might have missed to list a con or two; if I get sick or something I obviously won't be able to go to a con, even if it was marked "set" etc. ^^" This list is just an estimation and I reserve the right for any changes, adjustments etc.
Cons that are not listed I have no interest in attending, or the interest is so small that I just didn't bother to list them. Oh, and Kemin mangapäivä (Kemi's manga day) is not listed because I have no clue when it is and well, you can't really consider it a convention anyway.

Thanks for checking this out and I hope to see you peeps around!
Ciao mjau!

Tracon 2014 – Seemingly I'm a terrorist, a doll and a knight

Morjens!

I've returned home from Tracon 9 now.. and as a goodbye present I'm now a victim of the con flu. *cough* But let's not worry about that now, because it's time to write my summary about said event!
Tracon was held during 13-14 September 2014 in Tampere, Finland. As per usual Tampere-talo served as the Tracon building and I hope it will always stay like that.

Now let's go!

pre-Tracon (11-12 September)

Already on Thursday night my journey towards Tracon started. Me, Hasakitsuki and Jäätynyt Enkeli took one of the very last trains to spurguland Tampere. Our train left 21:09 local time and only 30 minutes before we had still been waiting at Jäätynyt Enkeli's place 20+ kilometers away from Kemi stressed to hell and back that mom had forgotten about the whole shit. So mom had promised us that after her exercise thingy she would come straight and pick us up. She had said that it ended eight but when it was 30 minutes later no silver Mercedes Benz perseelle lens had shown up and all of us were vigorously trying to call her. Worst part? Of friggin' course our cellphone networks had to die at this very crucial moment. And not just my network, Jäätynyt Enkeli's too. I tried to call mom at least three times to no avail and then I called stepdad and somehow, magically, it worked this time. I asked why the *beep* mom didn't answer (the few times my network even gave me any kind of connection..) even though 10+ minutes had passed since eight and that she sure is aware that we are leaving today, right? He just said that she should come and that we should just wait patiently and well, my phone network died in the middle of it all so I didn't get to finish the call. Of course. But hey, someone tell me.. HOW DOES ONE WAIT PATIENTLY AT A TIME LIKE THIS?? 8C
We had time to imagine horrific things like missing the whole con or having to buy new train tickets and pay 120+ € per person to get to Tampere and back. Definitely wouldn't have had cash for that shit. But luckily, eventually, Jäätynyt Enkeli got in touch with mom and *le gasp* she was on her way. When she finally showed up we crammed our mountain of stuff in her car and headed for Kemi train station. I think most of us except mom had our hearts pounding in our throats because we were so stressed that we wouldn't make it in time; everyone knows that trains don't wait for anyone. Matti Myöhäiset ovat kusessa, aina ja ikuisesti.
But yeah, we actually made it in time no problem and lo' and behold the train wasn't even there yet! o_o We bid mom farewell and waited for the train outside. It was dark, it smelled cigarettes and a few others were around us.. but none gave con vibes. :( People seemed to stare at me because I was carrying a very long black wooden stick. I wonder why... :'DD
Ehem, in the train we made our way to the 21st cart and there as usual some random woman was sitting on my booked seat. THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS TO ME. 8C I just told her that it's my place and she moved no problem, luckily. xD
Nothing special really happened during the way there; we just played some PSP briefly and slept. Poorly.

Friday morning dawned and 05:35 our train arrived in Tampere. Our group of half-zombies slid our way out of the cart and into the thick morning fog. We didn't burn into crisps directly because the sun wasn't up just yet. I was happy about this because my eyes felt like crumpled raisins in the eye sockets and I was so damn tired and laggy. The realization that I'd have to put on a cosplay later on the same day felt like walking willingly into a flame pit of Mordor. Ei helvetti.
Oh well, many many hours remained before we could even get into our hotel which opens at 16:00 the horrroooooor and so we started walking down a street, checking for any food store or eating place that would be open.
But no.
We didn't find anything for a long time. We searched and searched.. until we finally came to the conclusion that only McDonald's was open. Nothing else. Y u do dis to me? ;_; For a while we were all "man, isn't there anything else? D:" but then we thought about it McDonald's has free Wi-Fi. We went there.
Inside there were just a few others and we took a table close to the window so that we could put some of our stuff on the "ground-level window shelf" lol. Hasakitsuki bought some bad coffee and I had one of these breakfast burger-ish things with bacon and egg on. It was surprisingly okay.

Burger breakfast, dangnabbit!
We lagged at McDonald's for about two hours because well, nothing else was open and free internet.. and bathrooms. We then decided to go back to the train station and when we got there we went to sit on one of the wooden benches in the main hall/entrance area/whatever. I quickly got very tired so I took my Turtles plush pillow and lied down. I suddenly started freezing like hell too; got constant cold shivers and had to ask Hasakitsuki to let me use her jackets as blankets. I thought I'd get sick or something but seemingly not. I just fell asleep at some point and a security guard guy appeared to ask what was going on. I mumbled to him that I had barely slept in the train and that I was freezing my ass off. He understood and kindly let me continue my sleeping. I hope I just seemed like a sick/tired boy and not a spurgu...
I have some blanks in my memory here because at some point an hour or two had passed and I have no memory that I slept very long but oh well. I remember that someone knocked on the bench and it echoed and then there was a random woman sitting there with her stuff, next to my feet. Slightly awkward. The damn knocking echoed into my ears haha. And I must say that it was painful to lie on the bench because it was so hard; I was lying on my stomach and my knees were hurting from the hard surface and sometimes I moved to my side but lolnope. Pain.
I think around twelve something Joel showed up and that's when I stopped sleeping and gathered my shit. I was still freezing and it felt like I had pee in my brain, but we all wanted to go eat something now that stores were open. Joel guided us to a shopping center called Koskikeskus and we ate at Subway (chicken teriyaki nom!) and then we went upstairs to chill. There we saw an ice cream bar that had like OVER NINETHOUSAAAAND unique ice cream flavors and of course we had to try some!

Ice cream heaven! <3
There's so many...
... FLAVORS!!
I'm not even exaggerating when I say that it's easily one of the best ice creams I've ever had in my life! <3 There were many flavors I've never seen before and all the ice cram flavors I tasted were damn good! I mean, they tasted so real. For example banana ice cream actually tasted like you would have mashed whole bananas in it, not this kind of man-made artificial taste. And yeah, the energy flavor totally tasted like energy drinks do. xD
It was so good I'd travel the whole way to Tampere just to buy ice cream from this place, if I had the cash that is – that's telling you how awesome it was.
After enjoying our deluxe ice cream and chitchatting for a while we had finally spent enough time so that we could start to head out for Omenahotel. We quickly realized that our room was in the sixth floor and I wasn't going to take the elevator. You see, it was this old-looking cage sort of elevator that I'm shit scared of (I don't like elevators in general) and so one of us, aka Hasakitsuki, took all the suitcases in it and the rest went up the stairs of doom. The stairs of doom tried to kill me, the last two floors were horrible to get through. ;_; Lungs please. We eventually made it and I crashed on the bed like a dead sausage.
It didn't take long until I received a text message from Anniilaugh saying that she was on her way. This of course meant that soon I had to magically turn myself into a samurai for our planned pre-con Rurouni Kenshin photoshoot. I swear it was hard to get the motivation I was shit tired from the journey, exhausted and looked like crap. It felt like the hardest task ever.. until Anniilaugh knocked on the door. That's when the motivation came back. Boom, magic.
So I put on my hakama and shizz, did my makeup and changed hair color. Suddenly I actually looked presentable. But that impression didn't last long. Oh no, I was supposed to look like I'd just taken a severe beating!

"I know we're supposed to be enemies.. but help me
look like you just kicked my ass, mmkay?"
Starting to look like something...
... aaaaand done!
The worse I looked the better! I assure you in reality I didn't have a single scratch, it's all makeup. ;) Art by Anniilaugh haha. Amazing though. I want to learn how to do it too!

paparazzi!Okita strikes!
U MAD KENSHIN?
When we were done we headed out to the surroundings of Tampere-talo. It had started getting dark so we had to hurry a bit. And of course because I'm dressed as Okitamy body decides that "NOW IS THE TIME" and I ended up coughing during the whole walk to our shooting location. OTL Kenshin said "don't die yet." ;___; Oh and by the way, Hasakitsuki came with us to act as the photographer.
When we were shooting at the park some random guys passed us by and one shouted "terrorists!" at us. Whao, we are now terrorist samurai!! This was highly amusing. xD A congoer also told us that we still have to wait one more day for the con. :'D It was funny!

I haven't gone through the photos just yet so please bear with me; the photoshoot pictures will come in a later separate post!
EDIT: Rurouni Kenshin photoshoot posts here part 1 & part 2

But really, the amount of stares we got on our way there and back though, oh god. Some were staring with their eyes and mouths wide open!
We looked like warriors who were returning home after a war. It was highly amusing to watch the reactions. x)
When we passed by a food store on our way back Anniilaugh went ahead into her Omena room (which was just a few doors away from ours!) and me and Hasakitsuki went into the store to buy some night food and breakfast. It was a bit hard to walk through a narrow store with my shinsengumi flag, but I managed. Just when we had entered the store I'm sure I heard a group of people saying "makoto!", which put a smile on my lips. Yeah, it was the kanji on my flag I had been recognized! :'D But of course people stared at me in the store too.. but luckily no one called the ambulance lol.
As soon as we were out of the food store and had crossed the street there were these two immigrant men who looked at me and shouted loudly. First a very loud "WHAT THE FUCK?!" (yeah, in English, not Finnish. The rest was in Finnish originally though) followed by "are you from Japan?". Well, at least he said Japan and not China. I didn't answer him and then his friend I assume answered to him: "no, it's a student." I don't even. xD What's the connection? LOL
Back at the hotel everyone slowly went to bed and I changed out of cosplay. Of course I went to sleep way later than I should have...

Saturday

My alarm rang at 08:00. I wasn't amused.
I'm not gonna lie, my feelings of waking up can all be summarized into one single picture.

Okay, so it totally was the hardest thing ever to get up; it felt like my eyes were sealed shut with super glue. I just wanted to sleep all day. Just.. no way. It took me 30 minutes to even get up, everyone had at least eaten breakfast and started putting on their cosplays. Meanwhile I didn't want to part from the bed, it was my one and only love.

Saanksmä nukkuu viel..? ;__;
Eventually Hasakitsuki got me to wake up, likely by shoving a specific plushie into my face. We had some breakfast and I tried to face the reality that I had to put contact lenses into my non-existent eyeballs. Urrrrgh. I slowly started changing into my Hajime Saitou cosplay and it didn't take long before one could hear a constant stream of swear words rolling out of the bathroom when I was putting on cosplay makeup. Jäätynyt Enkeli quickly joined in on the choir and waves of Perkele & Company™ filled the hotel room. Yeah, basically everything that could possibly go wrong makeup-wise went wrong...
Joel was done a lot before us so he left ahead for the con. The rest of us continued our morning putting-on-cosplay rage. When finally all of us were done we were hungry again and had to have breakfast, part two. We then headed out of the hotel room and I didn't see it coming that we'd meet again the Tracon curse and I.
Basically, as soon as we started making our way down the stairs I felt sudden pain in my left knee and it only got worse and worse with each step downwards. Toward the last floors it hurt so much I just wanted to jump on one leg and use my flag as a walking/support stick. But luckily when we got out of the stairs and into the street the pain receded and I could walk normally. I thought it was just a temporary derp and didn't think much more about it.. until I had to walk up stairs again and the pain returned. ;_; *insert dramatic nooo here*
Oh oh, speaking of walking on the street! When we had exited Omena and were about to cross the road towards the train station (you can take a shortcut there to Tampere-talo) a mom and her little daughter passed us by and the daughter stared at me, turned to her mom and asked in Finnish, with big eyes: "is that a doll?" xD Yeah, I'm totally a walking doll, lololo. She looked like she had just seen a magical fairytale character walk by; she had a pretty stunned face.

Tracon main entrance.
When we finally got to the con (which wasn't even far away) the clock was around 12:30 or something like that. We first headed straight to the Dealer's Hall because we all wanted to go check the Japanese candy guy's, well, Japanese candies.

Hnng, so many things I want to try!!
Hasakitsuki and Jäätynyt Enkeli bought some sweets from him and then we found Ri-kun, who came to deliver me their Saitou swords that I'd get to borrow over the con weekend. Thanks. <3 I put the swords in place and then headed out for the information desk because I wanted to check if they had the con program sheets/leaflets/whatnot. I found one and it hit me that the Shinsengumi panel was starting in a few minutes, oh snap! I had no idea where the room it was held in was Sonaatti 2 and after asking some people close-by and coming nowhere I asked the info desk again. They said it was downstairs next to Sonaatti 1 and so I hurried there, leaving all my friends behind and those who had just come to talk to me. Felt a bit bad about it but I was really in a hurry to get to the panel in time.

Shinsengumi panel's first slide picture that I saw.
When I found the right room there was a guy holding the door open but I could tell that I was slightly late because the panelist had started talking. I noticed that she was looking at me when I entered because well, I was dressed as her subject of research. xD In other words, like this:

Hajime Saitou from Hakuouki, aka my cosplay of the day! :D
So I put down all my stuff near a row of chairs pretty far in the front. I think I occupied three chairs because I had so much crap with me, oops. But yeah, with that amount of stuff I was bound to have shit happening.. and so of course it did. As soon as I sat down I had my flag and swords gliding off and falling on the floor. Possibly more than once. -_- It was really a bother as well as both awkward and embarrassing. I also had my kimono derping majorly when I sat down, which wasn't funny either. So yeah, needless to say it took me a while before I could sit down in peace; of course when I thought that finally everything was fine and dandy then... MY CELLPHONE STARTED RINGING!!! (╯°□°)︵ ┻━┻ *nuclear rage explosion*
I started panicking and searched for my phone and goddamnit I didn't find it anywhere! The ringtone just became louder and louder and I wanted to die and sink through the floor at this very moment. I knew that my cellphone was somewhere in my kimono sleeves because I tend to carry smaller things in them but hell, I had three sleeves to go through juban, kimono and haori sleeves and I kept fumbling around and didn't find the fucker! Dx It felt like forever until I actually found my phone and I answered it very quickly with a stressed "I can't talk right now, bye". Turned out later that it was my oldest sibling who wanted to talk about politics in Sweden...
After that, finally, I could focus on the panel. Which I enjoyed greatly by the way.

But now, panel pictures!

Birth of Shinsengumi, as well as member list.
What series they appear in...
.. and more series examples.
Hijikata and Kondou information.
[feat. historical versus fiction images]
We watched a clip of the best PeaceMaker Kurogane episode, period. xD
Shinsengumi clothing information.
Makoto logo.
It was so pretty because when the panelist was talking about makoto I took my flag, raised it up high so that everyone could see it and then I waved it around – gotta show an example! :-DD Everyone were laughing and/or smiling. It was so pretty, hahah.

Strict rules are strict.
Okita information hndhsjbdsnm <3
And then we watched a clip of the Ikedaya encounter as portrayed
in Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan anime. feels ;_;
Hijikata's death poem.
Even though I knew most of the things they took up in the panel because I'm a total shinsengumi nut I still found it very entertaining and well-made. It wasn't boring at any point and I even had my share of laughs and there were even some smaller details mentioned that I didn't know about! Wohoo! <3 Very good panel all in all, both thumbs up! I enjoyed it a lot and it showed that the panelist had a genuine interest in the subject and knew what she was talking about! This panel was my number 1 must-go-to of the whole Tracon, huehueheue..
After the panel I stayed for a while to talk with the panelist, Johanna. After the panel I also spotted FankiKitsune, who had stayed as well. I handed out the give-away prize to him and then I headed out to meet up with my company.

Part of the Dealer's Hall.
I headed towards the Dealer's Hall again because I assumed my company would be there. Right I was because when I closed in on the entrance Hasakitsuki, Jäätynyt Enkeli and Sairu-chan showed up, just coming from there. We reunited and I quickly started to complain about my knee hurting more than before. The others were very hungry so my voice to go to the first-aid spot was drowned in the "let's go eat" talk. I eventually got myself heard and everyone, except Hasakitsuki, stayed and waited near the info while we went to find the place. I walked in, said that I needed bandages or something similar and then explained what had happened. The elderly man tried moving/twisting my left leg and asked if it hurt. He then told me that he'll just put some cold gel for pain relief and wrap a bandage around; if it got worse I had to come back and eventually go to the health center for inspection. So yeah, last year I had a mummy foot and this year a mummy knee – success! *thumbs up* No. >_>
My hurt knee kept me occasionally limping through the rest of the con and at times it was really painful to walk. Good thing I have a high pain tolerance...
We headed out to eat after this and after some "I'm not sure I want kebab" talk at least from my side we ended up eating at the Chinese restaurant just next to the kebab place we ate at last year.

It quickly got renamed "Chinese Kondou's restaurant". xD
I mean, look at that hair!
Me and Hasakitsuki shared a portion of chicken and pineapple in rice and it was very good! Big portions too, no way I would have been able to eat all of that myself!

I don't remember clearly what exactly happened after the eating episode but I'm sure we went back to the con and checked around. Probably went to the Dealer's Hall again as well as outside. I must say that this year Tracon had a lot of stuff happening outside Tampere-talo! There were food stands, candy sellers and even a candy car parked next to Tracon! I was surprised, it was an awesome idea!
These market-style food stands gave the possibility to eat for those who couldn't be bothered to leave the con area (not like restaurants were far away though) and also added to a festival-ish atmosphere. It was really cool and I hope Tracon does this for the following years too!
I'm pretty sure at least two persons secretly video recorded our trio when we were walking around near the market area...

Tracon outside area feat. food stands.
The remainder of the Saturday went by bumping into con friends and walking around and checking stuff. I swear it felt like there was a lot of things going on all the time and so much to see! I missed a lot of panels and programs (including the Traconian Legends concert) that I would have wanted to see because I either arrived too late at the con or just forgot about the time. The Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu martial arts display I would have wanted to attend, as well as the Musou Shinden Ryu iaido display. Speaking of time, it just flew away! D: *grabs after it*
Oh oh, I remembered a funny thing that happened! At one point we were upstairs on this one floor that had the con representation tables for other events, like Cosvision and stuff. When we were closing in on the Archipelacon table I happened to remember that Ri-kun had mentioned that they'd likely go there. I told my company about this and I promise that on the following second I was done mentioning it Ri-kun suddenly passed us by, out of nowhere. What the hell? xD Did I summon them or what?? Whatever the case it was absolutely glorious! What you mean speak of the devil and the devil shall come?

Before we knew it it had become late-ish, my contacts were drying in my eyes and I started to feel the tiredness kicking in. But I couldn't leave for today until I had handed over the remaining give-away prize to Minorea, who would give it forward to Tsuyami Yukihara. We had been in touch with the power of text messages but we didn't manage to meet until fairly late on the evening.
At some point my usual company of Jäätynyt Enkeli, Hasakitsuki and Sairu-chan were walking outside and we decided to go sit on one of the tables because of hurting feet. I ate some green tea waffles with Hasakitsuki that she had bought from the Japanese candy guy earlier. They were friggin' awesome. <3

Green tea waffle-cookie-things! So good!
There was a guy and a Bertholdt/Bertolt cosplayer from Attack on Titan sitting on the same table and they turned out to be hilarious company. xD

Bertholdt even wanted to save space in the trash can so
yeah, totally crammed the paper bag into the cup. xD
Hasakitsuki, me and Jäätynyt Enkeli decided to head back to the hotel fairly soon after I had given eyes to Itachi Uchiha the prize to Minorea. For a while we were waiting for Joel because he didn't want to walk back to the hotel alone; he didn't show up and informed us that he found other friends who would walk with him, so we went ahead. But before we left I felt a huge urge to take off my contacts and so I headed into the bathroom.. and Saitou's scarf got a new purpose in life act as a sleeve tying cord!

tasuki!Saitou eff yeah!
We stopped at the same food store again except Jäätynyt Enkeli who went straight to the hotel to buy night food again (mmh, midnight lasagne! *thumbs up*) and we got stared at all over again. Well, at least this time I didn't look like I had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and had to pay for it. But hey, guess what? At approximately the same spot as where we met the commenting immigrants the previous day there was now a random elderly man. Of course he commented too. "So where does the knight come from?" (implying what country I am from or where I live in Finnish) he said and because I very rarely answer to comments it took a few seconds of silence and then he spoke to himself, this time in a low voice "doesn't answer..." it was funnier than it seems because of his amusing tone of voice. :D But. This guy was the only funny one of the two we met during the way back. The second guy was downright CREEPY AS HELL.
Let me tell you about it!
So, when me and Hasakitsuki were close to our hotel we passed by a side street or whatnot that basically only had bars and pubs in it. Bad idea; should have realized, I know. When we were about half-way done with passing the pub area there was this one at least middle-aged scrubby looking man standing on the side of the walking path with an old bike. Almost as if he was waiting for something. When we passed him by he started walking next to us, leading his bike with him. He soon started trying to get contact with us but he was speaking so sloppily that I didn't really understand shit of what he was saying it didn't even sound like Finnish to me. Might have been Russian or something. It very soon became obvious that he was of the persistent and annoying kind because he didn't leave us alone and insisted on trying to get our attention. At one point he activated his speed-boost and walked ahead of us, stepped into our way and seemed to be about to put his bike on the road in an attempt to block off our way. He seemed agitated or something because we paid him no attention. Well, I know for sure that I was annoyed at this point and wished that he would just PISS THE HELL OFF ALREADY. 8C Luckily he didn't use his bike to block the road for us but he obviously waited until we caught up and he kept calling after us and walking just next to us at all times. It was friggin' anxiety inducing and scary as shit. I kept thinking that he probably had a goddamn knife or drugs or something in his pockets; he seemed completely drunk and didn't understand any hints that we just wanted to be left alone. He was wearing this kind of dirty looking clothes too and his speech was almost impossible to understand. I was so close to yell at him to go to hell and leave us the heck alone or I'll call the police ffs. :C Such a pain in the butt, rrrraarggh!! Even when we turned to the big street and took the final steps to our hotel he kept following; he even stopped in front of the hotel's entrance and kept bothering the other people who were standing there as soon as we were out of his reach. Omena hotel has a code lock system so if you don't know the code you can't get in life saver dangnabbit...
I overheard one of the girls of the other group later telling another one that "the drunkard was scary and harassed me!" Eeew. I should have pushed my flag pole up his arse or something, maybe then he would have gotten the idea that he was annoying beyond words... *sigh* Absolutely the most disgusting and anxiety-inducing encounter I've had. Why do I and Jäätynyt Enkeli get all the drunk guy encounters at Tampere anyway? Spurguland... 8C
Oh well, at the hotel we ate our lasagne and changed out of cosplay. We started slowly packing away our stuff so that it would be easier to leave on Sunday and then we went to sleep, tired as we were. I had horrible problems falling asleep because when I was lying down every leg position hurt to hell and back. It was really bad and I just kept wincing in pain for 10+ minutes, couldn't really do much. Eventually with the help of my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles plush pillow used as a leg support I managed to find some position that hurt a little bit less than the others and somehow I then fell asleep...

Sunday

Morning came, we were supposed to wake up at 07:00 but lolnope. At least for me it was a lolnope. I lagged around in bed again and Joel was pretty much in full cosplay before I even managed to drag myself to the table to have breakfast. xD Then again I was a bit worried about getting up in case it would hurt like piss again. It wasn't too bad though when I actually got up. Sure, I was limping around and avoided putting weight on said hurt knee but oh well, it was worse last night, by far.
Joel left before us again. And I swear that every time I thought I'd occupy the bathroom to start putting on my contact lenses and stuff then someone else needed to go there in like 3-2-1-NOW so I got delayed for like, forever. In other words everyone kept having constant sudden pee needs and shit needs. Including me, I had to take a crapping session at least twice on the morning, goddammit! xD I know you care about my informative details, höhö. :-DD But yeah, eventually I got my cosplay on and we left our hotel 30 minutes before deadline, hah.
At the con we went to a corner near the men's bathroom where me and Hasakitsuki opened our suitcase to take out stuff. Ibuki had half his hair missing haha. Yeah, I was a derp and forgot my ponytail clip in the suitcase.. Sairu-chan showed up at this point dressed as SSL!Kozusu from Hakuouki. She was so cute! ;A; We had planned to have a timefuck!photoshoot because I was cosplaying the ordinary version of Ibuki and not the Sweet School Life version.
We closed our suitcase and then Jäätynyt Enkeli came to tell me that Sipsinekku was waiting for me close to the entrance. She had bought me a Hakuouki figure on her trip to Japan that I would pay her back at Tracon. But when I found her seemingly Jäätynyt Enkeli had already paid my part for her ('kay..?) so I just paid him instead. The figure can be seen here!
After this I went to catch up with Sairu-chan and Hasakitsuki who were taking our stuff to the checkroom ('narikka' in Finnish) for storage. While there I spotted Satu from Kandi & Cyber whom I handed out mine and Hasakitsuki's gift to a pack of Swedish coconut chocolate balls. :D
We then headed for the Dealer's Hall because Hasakitsuki was cosplaying Hinata Hyuga from Naruto and had forgotten her newly bought headband at home. xD So she bought a new one and then I followed her outside to the Naruto cosplay group meeting, which started 13:00. I ended up acting as a photographer for their group photoshoot. When the Naruto meet was over Jäätynyt Enkeli and Sipsinekku showed up and asked me for a quick photoshoot of their Attack on Titan cosplays. I agreed because on the same roll I could get a photoshoot for my Ibuki cosplay as well!

Ibuki photoshoot pictures will come in a separate post soon! SOOOOON.
There's too many of them to put them in the con summary.
EDIT: Photoshoot post here
Ibuki Ryunosuke photoshoot

Between my own photoshoot I did a quick shooting for Hasakitsuki's Hinata cosplay. And when we were done I wanted to go and change into my Okita cosplay because the waraji felt like standing on spikes, the contacts were starting to blur my vision and Ibuki's black feet things were constantly rolling down my thighs, they see me rollin' they hatin'. In other words it had started to be bothersome to wear.
But when we came back inside I was struck by the most horrible sight of them all I saw loads of people dragging with them their suitcases and heading towards the main entrance. Could this be..? No, it can't be! D: For a moment I refused to believe that the happenings that spread around my vision field meant that one thing. I mean, I just came here! I hadn't even had time to check half the things I wanted to check! Dafuq!? But no, someone pointed at the clock for me and it felt like a slap in the face. Hard. With a saucepan. Several times.
The clock stood at 17:00 and can someone please tell me where the heck the 4 hours went?? Was there a time rift somewhere? A black hole designed to suck in seconds? D: I swear it felt like I just got started and then the con was going through its final hour. There wasn't even a point in changing cosplay anymore. :'( I would have wanted to.
So yeah, nothing we could do to stop time from running away kuka voisi kellot seisauttaa, ja ajan pysäyttää ~ We just had to go fetch our luggages and change out of cosplay. Talk about a bummer!

I still don't even know what happened and it felt like I missed most of Tracon because of a lack of time and too many things to do. I didn't even find half of the people I wanted to either meet or photograph their cosplays and neither did I find that one Sunday Hakuouki group that I was looking forward to find (and maybe join)! I didn't even get to have the photoshoot with Sairu-chan! ;_; *insert moment of despair here*

Oh oh! I don't remember exactly when this happened but during Sunday at one point I had seemingly dropped my cellphone without noticing and I only knew that it was lost after Jäätynyt Enkeli showed up with it in his hands and told me that it had been found and delivered to the information desk by someone. He found out that it was lost because he had tried to call me and someone working at the info desk had answered on my phone. I swear, if he hadn't called my phone I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even had noticed that it was missing before it was too late. Damn, that was a close one! D: I almost lost a camera back at Uppcon 2011 as well, but it was delivered to the info desk too, by a kind soul, so I got it back...

But yeah, me and Hasakitsuki changed out of cosplay and into everyday gear except that I kept Ibuki's top jacket thingy and we weren't done changing until a little bit after 18:00 and then we had to hurry outside. Outside near the stairs Jäätynyt Enkeli was waiting for us. We said goodbye to Tracon it's so hard to leave your con home ;A; and headed out for Koskikeskus to go eat something. We quickly came to the realization that it's late Sunday and pretty much everything was closed, shit! But we found McDonald's and Subway that were still open.

Guess which one we picked?
McDonald's, of course! :-D

No vittu ei.

Okay, seriously. We went to Subway, definitely, even though we ate there on Friday too. Not like Subway is bad though! After eating our sandwiches we headed out to have some super-mega-fabulous ice cream again. But when we came there... it was closed. :C Nooooooooooouuu...
We then went to sit randomly and I went without the suitcases to check around if there was something open. I ended up finding a cafeteria that sold popcorn, chips, candies etc for cinema watching. I assume there was a cinema nearby. There was also an ice cream bar, booyah!
So of course we hurried there to get some ice cream for dessert and after that we started heading for the train station because it had gotten pretty late and our train would leave at 22:11.
At the train station there were a surprisingly big amount of congoers everywhere I remember previous years most other congoers took earlier trains and me and my company were one of the few who took the very last ones. *shrug* Oh well, at this point we all were sitting on our suitcases close to the Food Station area. Me and Hasakitsuki were thinking that we needed to buy provisions for the trip back so we headed out to scout for the Siwa that according to Jäätynyt Enkeli was somewhere close and should be open. We found it and bought some chocolate milkshakes, Jaffa lemonade and drinking yoghurt. When we came back the yoghurts went down our throats in a matter of minutes and it tasted like the best thing ever. At this point it was informed that our train had already arrived, even though it wouldn't leave until 30 minutes later. We were surprised and hurried up to track 2 and indeed, there it was. Hasakitsuki decided to do a second speed-run for Siwa in the name of more yoghurt while me and Jäätynyt Enkeli took all our stuff into the train. She came back in a few minutes and now our knarking spamming of drinking goodness continued.

Our violet drug!
When I got an overload of yoghurt I turned to the trusty chocolate milkshake instead. Turtles approved.

What you mean I have horrid after-con eyebags? xD
I played some Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with Hasakitsuki but then she got tired and tried to sleep. I continued solo playing for a while because it was way too noisy to sleep in the goddamn cart. There was this one guy at the back who snored so loud that I was about to go insane. And it didn't help that a few seats behind me there were these two middle-aged women who were the worst chatterboxes ever! They kept babbling and cracking into laughter with every damn word they said (and it wasn't even funny, just annoying) and even though over half the people in the cart were sleeping they kept talking their bullshit loudly. It was way past 01:00 in the night before some random person told them something along the lines of "don't you understand people are trying to sleep? Be quiet." but seemingly they got offended or something and went all "aren't we allowed to talk or what" on her. >_> Ultra blörgh. Luckily I remembered that I happened to have earbuds in my shoulder bag so I dug them up and oh goodness, what a saving grace it was!
06:13 the following morning the train arrived at Kemi and man, I slept poorly as usual. It had gotten cold over the night and I was freezing while I had my provision breakfast.
When we stepped out of the train the cruel and cold reality hit us it's called northern Finland and it means you need a winter jacket already. We quickly decided to go back into the train station because we didn't see mom's car waiting for us anywhere. I was shit cold and Hasakitsuki tried to rub life into my back, but it didn't really help much.
Eventually mom showed up and we went to lag at her place until she had to leave for work and could drive us home on the same run. At her place I got it confirmed that I wasn't freezing for no reason temperature had dropped below during the night! No wonder there was frost on the ground and on the car windows...

DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN.
As soon as me and Hasakitsuki were back home we pretty much instantly went to sleep because we were shit tired and started to resemble zombies. The clock was around 07:30 (Finnish time, we were now in Sweden though) and we slept until afternoon. Oops.

And that concludes my Tracon 2014 summary! I must say that Tracon delivered again and did it well! <3 Shame that it ended way too fast this year too. I really hope they would make Tracon into a 3-day event soon because it feels like you just don't have time to do everything you want within two days. It ends before you even get started! :< I don't understand why Finnish cons are pretty much always two days save for Desucon when in Sweden most cons are three days, including small conventions. Finland, please... ;_;

But all in all Tracon still stays as Finland's best convention, if you ask me. The location is amazing a beautiful and roomy building with a lot of possibilities for both programs and photoshoots. Also Tampere-talo is in the heart of the city so everything you could possibly need isn't many steps away!
Thank you for everyone who made Tracon possible and all people who spent time with me! <3

Here's a photo video I quickly put together of cosplays I photographed at Tracon.
If you want your photo just inform me and I'll send it to you!

I'm also looking for photos of my cosplays, so if anyone has any I'd be glad if you sent 'em to valkoinensamurai[at]gmail[dot]com!

B-BONUS!

I was bored at the hotel on Friday, mmkay? xD
And that's about it!
Shiro Samurai says bye ~
